Meet us on 9.00 am - 4.00 pm every weekdays BLOCK F1 (Room F1 003) | (+94) 112 903184
Kalana Mithuru Sevana (KMS) is the University of Kelaniya’s student counselling unit. We exist to promote a healthy learning environment and to strengthen students’ ability to understand challenges, use their strengths, and solve problems with professional support and evidence-based services. (University of Kelaniya)
Where to find us and when: We are open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., located at Block F1 (Room F1-003) on campus.
• Individual counselling (confidential, free for all UoK students)
• Crisis support and referrals where needed
• Group sessions and wellbeing workshops
• Peer Counselling Certificate Course and continuous peer-helper development
• Field visits, awareness programs, and outreach to schools and partner institutions
These pillars reflect the Centre’s core service areas highlighted on our official site.
KMS has trained peer counsellors for many years. In 2023 we held the Peer Counsellors Certificate Awarding Ceremony and marked KMS’s 25th anniversary (the Centre began in 1998). The same day also launched Peer Counselor Batch 02, underscoring our commitment to sustainable student support and prevention.
We regularly run awareness programs and collaborative visits with external wellbeing partners, and we conduct training such as “Teachers as Counsellors for Student and Mental Health” in schools. These initiatives extend UoK’s care beyond campus and strengthen referral pathways.
KMS is led by a multidisciplinary team of academics and trained counsellors. The current roster (including the Director) and former directors are listed on our site. This breadth ensures students can access support that is culturally sensitive, ethically grounded, and academically informed.
