Workshop on Relaxation and Laughing therapy conducted by Kalana Mithuru Sevana for the non academic staff of University of Kelaniya was held at the Staff Development Center (SDC) Auditorium on 30th January 2020.

A peer counselling workshop organized by Kalana Mithuru Sevana, University of Kelaniya, was held at Sapugaskanda Vishaka Girls’ School on 27 June 2019. The session began at 8:30 a.m. and was conducted under the guidance of Assistant Professor Sarath Chandrasekara.
The workshop, coordinated by Dr. Bimali Wijesundara (Director, Kalana Mithuru Sevana), aimed to enhance counselling skills among university counsellors and student leaders. Participants included staff, university students, and school students, who received hands-on training in peer counselling techniques and psychological support practices.
This initiative reflects the University’s continued commitment to promoting student well-being and strengthening community-based mental health support systems through practical training and outreach.
The Kalana Mithuru Sevana unit of the University of Kelaniya held the inauguration ceremony of the Peer Counselling Certificate Course on 2 July 2019 at the Social Science Auditorium. The event commenced at 2:00 p.m., under the leadership of Dr. Bimali Wijesundara, Director of Kalana Mithuru Sevana.
The ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Deans of Faculties, highlighting the University’s institutional support for student mental health initiatives.
This program marks a key milestone in promoting peer counselling habits among students, aiming to build a compassionate campus environment where students are equipped to provide mutual emotional support. The event brought together staff and students committed to fostering a culture of psychological well-being within the university community.
As part of the Peer Counselling Certificate Course, the Kalana Mithuru Sevana unit of the University of Kelaniya organized a field visit to the Unawatuna Drug Rehabilitation Centre on 26 August 2019. The visit commenced at 6:30 a.m. and was coordinated by Dr. Bimali Wijesundara, Director of Kalana Mithuru Sevana.
The program was conducted under the guidance of the Director of the Treatment and Rehabilitation Division, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, with the participation of academic staff, students, and rehabilitation centre residents.
The field visit provided participants with practical exposure to drug prevention and rehabilitation practices, deepening their understanding of the challenges faced by individuals recovering from addiction. It also strengthened the University’s collaborative efforts in community-based mental health and substance abuse prevention initiatives.
